Community Gardening
R-Urban Poplar is an eco-civic hub based in Poplar, East London, on the edge of the Teviot Estate.
It supports community-led climate resilience through circular growing, composting, and creative reuse. The site is home to raised beds, a mushroom farm, composting systems, and shared spaces where residents come together to learn, grow, and connect.

At the heart of R-Urban is a belief in low-impact living and practical green skills, with projects that support sustainable food systems, resource repair, and the joy of growing.
Volunteering & Community Meals
Volunteering at R-Urban is open to all, especially beginners. Regular drop-in gardening sessions offer a hands-on way to learn about composting, sowing, planting, and seasonal growing. Volunteers help tend the garden spaces, harvest produce, and contribute to community meals made with freshly picked ingredients. These shared meals are a way to meet others, build community, and enjoy the fruits of local growing together.
Workshops, Training & Wider Support
Beyond gardening, R-Urban hosts a wide range of practical workshops focused on sustainability and circular living. These include repair sessions, compost training, planter building, mushroom cultivation, and low-waste living skills delivered by local groups such as MAD Leap, Sunny Jar, and Public Works. The space is also used by youth groups, artists, designers, and community organisers to run collaborative, skill-sharing events that support climate resilience at a neighbourhood level.
